Pop goddess Kylie Minogue has been announced as the headliner for Pride Island, a new two-day LGBTQ cultural experience at Pier 97, in the heart of Hells Kitchen, in New York City.
The 49-year-old Australian pop singer will take the stage on Sunday, June 24th, with additional sets by DJ Grind, DJ Ralphi Rosario and DJ Craig.
Swedish pop songstress Tove Lo, experimental hip-hop singer-rapper Lizzo, DJ Simon Dunmore, Big Freedia, DJ Dawson and Sasha Velour, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9, are scheduled to perform on Saturday, June 23rd.
“With the success of last year’s Pride Island, we are thrilled to bring back our music festival in a two-day format,” says Pride Island director Jose Ramos, Pride Island Director, who calls this year’s lineup “perfect examples of the evolution of Dance on the Pier.”
New York City Pride takes place June 14 to June 24, with a theme of “Defiantly Different”. “This year’s theme is about showing our power, squaring our shoulders in the face of adversity, and continuing to sculpt that magnetic bond within the LGBTQ+ community and our allies,” says Pride co-chair David Studinski. “The corresponding creative showcases a wide selection of defiantly different community members—from performance artists to mental health advocates. We are standing defiantly—defiantly different and defiantly as one.”
Kylie Minogue’s fourteenth album, Golden, drops April 6. She previously described the sound of her new record as “Dolly Parton standing on a dancefloor”, as evidenced in her country-tinted first single, Dancing.
